DeWalt DCD985 3-Speed Hammerdrill

As a former licensed contractor and home builder, I know a quality tool when I use one. I’ve always been a big DeWalt fan, and this time – they’ve outdone themselves, in my opinion.

The DeWalt DCD985 3-speed Hammerdrill oozes versatility. OK, maybe ooze isn’t the right word, but you know what I’m saying. When you combine a 3-speed transmission, 3 drilling modes AND a 22 position clutch, there’s nothing I can think of that this drill wouldn’t tackle, given the 20 volt MAX lithium-ion power plant.

More than that, the drill has a solid feel and a grip that fits in my hand well. If you use drills often, you know how important it is to have it become almost an extension of your arm. That’s especially true of a hammerdrill, since you never know when the bit will hit an obstacle and cause kickback.

Pros:

  • Ergonomic handle
  • Steel Chuck
  • Slide-lock battery pack

Cons:

  • None that I found

Take a look at my video review (yup, I have a tough life – at the beach!) for the rest of my humble opinions and more tech specs.
